Ghosts of Ft. Worth

As I was eating lunch with Amitabha the other day at the H3 Ranch in the Stockyards of Fort Worth, the Waitress mentioned (since we were looking for things to do) that we might want to knock on the red door next to the Star Cafe. She said, "Ask Miss Polly to let you in for a tour of Miss Molly's Bed & Breakfast. It was just on Ghost Lab."
Curious, we took her up on the idea and did just that.

Miss Polly did not actually answer the door, but there was a number posted outside. I called her up and she allowed us in.
What went on from here for the next 25 minutes was nothings less than mysterious, amusing, and a little scary.

Apparently, Miss Molly's Bed & Breakfast was once a Bordello that entertained many of the gunfighters, ranchers, ruffians, and soldiers that came through the stockyards when it was a major cattle hub. Everyone from Wild Bill Hickock to the Sundance Kid has been reported passing through the Fort Worth Stockyards, and it's been home to many gunfights. It would make sense that there would be ghosts there. Miss Molly's apparently houses many, though one or two per room.

Cementing your Workout

Picture 1
A few months prior to the new year, I decided to get a leg up on exercise. Something about seeing yourself on a video camera for several days in a row helps to show you where your weak spots, and fluffy spots are.
As soon as I got back from my Lynda shoot, I decided to get a gym membership, and purchase some sessions with a personal trainer. This was a truly wonderful experience considering the only fitness instruction I'd ever received had been from drill sergeants yelling at groups of us, aside from a few sessions with a really, really fit Sergeant Major that I used to work with that showed me the 'Abs of Steel' workout once. And believe me, that was some time well spent there, even when my abs have appeared to get fluffy over the years, they've remained rock hard underneath the cotton, only because I continued this workout somewhat through the years. G.W. Childs Lynda Course

Picture 7

Recently, I was given the chance to write and create my first video course, and I couldn't have asked for a better partner. Lynda.com and I worked together over the later part of last year in putting together a really cool course on 'Using Reason and Record on Stage'. In this course we actually got a live band together, Kelly's Lot, and talked about some of the things that you'd need to know in order to bring your laptop on to the stage with you. I also got to spend time in a wicked, cool isolation booth creating some tutorials for sound creation, as well as practical Reason patching with live performance in mind.

Colors

Picture 5

Every music application has some way of color coding regions, clips, tracks, etc, but for some reason, you don't really see anyone using this feature except pros, power users and people, like myself, that do demos for music software. Let's talk a little bit about how colors can really help you out.

Hot Swapping Audio Devices

Picture 1

Over a few weeks I’ve had some strange crashes on my Macbook Pro.

It all started after l had installed Pro Tools 8 LE on my system. After a while of sustained usage, or being on for several hours, suddenly, the machine would give me a complete kernel error or “You need to reboot, to do this, hold the power button...’.

Not a fun message, especially if you are writing a blog like I am now and suddenly... Yeah, you get the picture.
After this really messed me up, I finally sat down and started checking out my system report after the crash. The root of the crash was the ‘digi.core.audio’ driver. Mind you, I had forgotten about the Pro Tools installation at this point and this served as my reminder.

After looking around on the Digi forums and a little here, and a little there, I discovered the cause, effect and solution.

TAL Bassline

Picture 4
This is my first in a series of reviews on the TAL Bassline from Togu Audio Line. I've felt compelled to write about it and promote it in anyway possible because personally I feel like it's one of the best VST (and even free) plug-ins out there currently. What makes it so great? Read More...

Force Unleashed

The Force Unleashed was just released a couple of weeks ago. I have been working on this title for the last year providing voice processing and even creating a new process for a brand new character that appears in the game known as Proxy.

I finally got a chance to play through the whole game the other night and had a wonderful time. Check it out when you get a chance!Star-Wars-The-Force-Unleashed
